My Customer Avatar

Using the avatar creating website, I created an avatar that represented my ideal customer based on the segment I identified. Here she is!!

 When I think about the typical customer that would be interested in buying a plastic-straw alternative made of sea kelp that is functional AND good for the environment, I picture a young woman who is already actively involved in choosing eco-friendly options. She drives a hybrid car that does not emit many toxic chemicals into the environment. Her hobbies include reading, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends, and going out to eat at ethical and delicious restaurants. She follows the schedule of a normal college student or young professional but adds things to her agenda that help her fight climate change. She loves succulents and sea turtles. She is definitely more liberal, supporting policies that fight climate change, and may feel older and more educated than what her age reflects. She has a job that helps her make enough money to be able to afford these lifestyle changes, like being vegan and buying these eco friendly straws, that are more expensive. Despite her involvement in the environment, she hates paper straws too because they ruin her dining experience.
I don't make as many drastic lifestyle changes as this avatar but I also am interested in helping the environment. I am more on the liberal side and do agree that we should be fighting climate change. Although I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I try to eat more plant-based in general. I think what I have in common with this customer prototype is not a coincidence because we are both in college, exposed to the same issues, and are looking for a great straw alternative still. :)

    Hello Linnea,
    reading your customer avatar was very interesting because it had a plethora of details! I like how you mentioned how she has a thing for climate change which is something huge i imagine in advertising your straw. I relate to your avatar in the sense that I feel a lot older and more educated then my age. I really enjoyed reading your post and seeing how you connected your avatar to yourself and mentioned how you both go to college. Great Post!

    Hi Linnea,
    I think you did a really good job of defining your avatar and her roles. I think a lot of college students can resonate with her. I myself became vegetarian at the beginning of this year in efforts to help the planet, and I believe many are taking this initiative now. There was actual a file error on your avatar link, but nevertheless you did a great job describing her for the imagination.

    I too am on the more liberal side of fighting climate change. I try my best to reuse things I wouldve thrown away before, and I don't buy paper or plastic utensils or plates any longer. I am also not vegetarian or vegan, but I care about the planet. I pictured your customer avatar to be the same thing, so great job overall!

Opportunity Belief

My Belief: There is an opportunity in creating an environmentally friendly straw that is completely decomposable and good for the planet, but isn't made out of paper. Description: There is an unmet need for a straw that is good for the environment and won't end up as litter, but one that isn't made out of paper. Paper straws, although great for the environment, disintegrate quickly and can become unusable very fast. Anyone who uses straws has this need, especially in cities like Gainesville where plastic straws have been banned completely. FINAL REFLECTION!

From the beginning to the end of the semester, my posts definitely improved. It took me a little bit to get into the swing of the class and understand what made a good post, and being able to peer review my classmates and see how they were completing their assignments also helped me a lot.  2) I felt like me and those that I peer reviewed were like a little community of entrepreneurs always supporting each other. Even though it was a required assignment to comment on other posts, it still felt nice to see familiar names giving me kind and helpful feedback by the end of the semester! The most formative experience was probably in my last elevator pitch, because I felt like I was truly representing and talking about a real product that I believed in.
